Welcome to the Colonial Carriage and Driving Society’s web site. This site is intended to give up-to-date information about our club meetings and special events. The Society welcomes everyone to join the club, whether you drive carriage horses or just have an interest in the history and traditions of carriage driving. Open meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm at Orleton Farm in Stockbridge, Mass. Some meetings feature an informational speaker as well as the normal business.

Important Show Update:

Exhibitors: Dressage Times are posted! http://colonialcarriage.org/

In less than 1 week from today we will be enjoying the beautiful rolling hills, impeccably prepared driving rings, exciting obstacle courses, and memorable hospitality of Orleton Farm, Harvey and Mary Waller, and the Colonial Carriage and Driving Society in Stockbridge, Mass.  Make sure you are finalizing your plans to join us.  Remember pre-entries closed May 18 if you want to join us, be advised that late entry fees may be incurred.

There are several updates.  Please note the error in the entry form.  Thursday is derby day and the Super Derby is intended to be driven as a three-phase event; dressage, cones and derby obstacles.  However, PLEASE NOTE: as of now there are slots open to allow whips to elect to drive a traditional combined test of dressage and cones (and skip the scary derby obstacles).  So you may want to add another day.  Friday is the planned traditional combined test and the pleasure country drive pace with the opportunity to drive the marathon type obstacles without a memory test, as all directions and gates are marked, or the pressure of timed individual obstacles.  Trot only.

Saturday and Sunday are two days of pleasure show classes with a division for everyone: multiples to VSE, novice whips, or maiden equines to the Old Guard and the Park Division.  We have added three special Pleasure Show awards.  The Edward B. Young, Jr. Sportsmanship Award will be granted
“In recognition of an individual who exemplifies the qualities of integrity and excellence in horsemanship and serves as an enthusiastic ambassador for the driving sport.”  The trophy is donated by Ray and Kelly Casella.  Mary Waller has donated special trophies for the “Best Gentleman Whip” and the “Best Ladies Whip” based on points earned in the classes of the Pleasure Show on Saturday and Sunday. We will also consider inserting a Costume Class immediately after lunch break on Sunday if there is sufficient exhibitor interest.

If you can’t get that entry in the mail, please send me an email alert to save your spot in the desired classes: westgate@taconic.net

Please send any news you may have for the newsletter (new members to the family, photos from events, want ads) to Jen Wilcox at: jen.wilcox@verizon.net or Harvey at: hwaller562@aol.com.

Please check “Listing of Events” on this site for details on other upcoming events. The Society hosts a variety of events, such as driving clinics, informal drives, the Orleton Farm Pleasure Driving Show, Winter Classic Sleigh Rally, Lenox Tub Parade, and Summer Fun Day. Fun Day was created as an opportunity for recreational drivers, as well as seasoned whips, to experience games and friendly competition. The members enjoy the social aspect the Society brings to each meeting and special event, where friends get together to have fun, drive their horses, and to learn more about carriage driving.

The Colonial Carriage and Driving Society was officially formed on January 15, 1989. Twenty-five years later, the club continues to grow and offer many exciting activities. Come to our events or join our club and enjoy the history and tradition of carriage driving.
